I am participating in Green Life to promote a healthier campus. I want to reduce the smoking on campus to designated areas so that those of us who don't want to inhale it don't have too. As of right now people tend to smoke right outside the doors to the campus buildings forcing everyone to walk through a cloud of smoke to go inside. I want to put up tents around campus for students and teachers to smoke in. These tents would follow the 30 ft. rule allowing for cleaner air outside the buildings. I also want to put plenty of places to put the cigarettes once they are done to prevent littering. This is going to allow for cleaner air and a cleaner campus!

I think this is one idea that many people will support. Smoking is always a hot topic. How are you going to pay for these tents though? You may need to propose a way to earn the money to support these ideas. For public literacy you could make fliers of your cause, and pass out pamphlets about the dangers of secondhand smoke. You could also start a petition to get smoking in only these designated areas.
ReplyDeleteThese are some very good ideas! I was actually considering making a pamphlet. However, the money for the tents did not cross my mind. I'm sure that with the help of the green life group, we could raise the money for the tents and definitely start a petition for the designated areas to be used. I am still struggling with a way we could reinforce these tents to be used because I am concerned students and other faculty members will not follow the 30 foot rule as they are not now.
ReplyDeleteI think that you your propsal is a very good idea. I hate having to walk through all that smoke to get into the buildings, but I don't want to take away peoples right. I think that the tents are a great way for everyone to meet in the middle.
ReplyDeleteI want to thank you for commenting on my blog. The reason why I'm fighting so hard for this cause is that I've lost a very close family member to this disease too. I love your idea about the prevention pamphlets, and I'm going to be using it. So thank you very much for the idea!
Like many of the others have already said, this is an excellent idea. Not only because it is good for the environment, but especially because you can easily get many followers to assist you. I don't think anyone on campus that doesn't smoke, enjoys inhaling a cloud of fresh cigarette smoke when they walk out the door. However, the tents will not be cheap, but like someone said already, I'm sure that Green Life could help you with that.
